Dr. Phillips High School’s competitive cheerleading squad places first at the Florida High School Athletic Association state championships in Tallahassee.


Congratulations to Dr. Phillips High School’s competitive cheerleading squad, which took first-place honors at the Florida High School Athletic Association state championships in Tallahassee. The women competed in the Small Varsity division and bested 24 other schools to take home the championship trophy. This is the 15th state title for DPHS and its first since 1999.

Kudos to squad members Megan Anderson, Carly Angelastro, Lily Clark, Clara Engelmann, Lexie Evans, Taylor Ferris, Isabella Gabiatti, Emily Hales, Kirsten Hooper, Ally Magee, Krystel Marin, Kelly McGinnis, Pam and Talita Norberto, Cassie Rosendahl and Brooke Shanks; head coach Kelly Leslie; and assistant coach Sam Hoffman.

Olympia High School lacrosse player Carly Garrison surpasses 200 career points.


Olympia High School senior and lacrosse player Carly Garrison earned her 204th career point after scoring four goals and completing two assists in the Titans’ 21-7 win over Bishop Moore Catholic High School. Garrison’s accolades include being named to two All-Metro and three All-District Conference teams, as well as receiving an All-American honorable mention.

The Gift of Swimming will hold its Pair Up For The Gift golf tournament and reception April 18 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at ChampionsGate Golf Club. The event will include golf on the par-3 course, a reception in Champions Hall, cash bar, hors d’oeuvres, raffle and more.

The cost is $75 per couple for the reception, $125 per couple for golf and the reception, and $250 for hole sponsorship.

John “Lucky” Meisenheimer, M.D., pledges to donate $10,000 to the Central Florida YMCA Youth Scholarship Fund as soon as his “10 Most Wanted” complete Lucky’s Lake Swim.


John “Lucky” Meisenheimer, M.D., founder of Lucky’s Lake Swim, aka the Aquatica 1K swim, pledged to donate $10,000 to the Central Florida YMCA Youth Scholarship Fund once the Central Florida residents listed on his “wanted poster” complete the lake swim that kicks off in his back yard. Dr. Meisenheimer will donate $1,000 per person when the following residents complete the open-water swim: Jack Beattie, D.D.S., masters swimmer; Ambrose “Rowdy” Gaines III, three-time Olympic gold medalist and swimming analyst for NBC and ESPN; firefighter Roger Hernandez; Chet Miltenberger, M.D., masters swimmer; Glenn Edward “Ed” Moses Jr., Olympic gold and silver medalist; Mel Nash, YMCA Aquatic Center head coach and director of competitive aquatics and former swimming world champion; attorney Mark Nation; Harris Rosen, hotelier, philanthropist and YMCA Aquatic Center supporter; Rosemarie “Bud” Seaman, Olympic swimmer, Ironman triathlete and owner of Bud’s Ultimate Fitness; and Dara Torres, five-time Olympian, model and TV personality.

The eighth annual Conductive Education Center of Orlando Golf Classic will be held at Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park on May 4 at 10:30 a.m. The day will include a round of golf, contests, an awards reception, prizes and more.

The cost is $300 per player, and sponsorships range from $1,000 to $15,000. Proceeds will benefit CECO’s mission of enhancing the independence of children who have motor disabilities.

Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales will host the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Mid Florida Chapter’s Bike MS: The Citrus Tour 2009 from May 16 through May 17. The two-day, 150-mile ride includes three route options, rest stops every eight to 12 miles, and support vehicles. Bikers will travel from Lake Wales to the Caribe Royale Orlando All-Suites Hotel & Convention Center, where the event will culminate with a celebratory dinner.

A minimum fundraising goal of $250 is required to participate.

The Windermere Wildfire ’96 went undefeated to win the 2009 Disney’s President’s Day Fastpitch Open that was held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex. The 12-under softball team won four consecutive games to make it to the championship matchup, where the girls defeated the Orlando Flames 6-4.
