Windermere Elementary School’s Girls on the Run team participates in the Orlando Utilities Commission 5K in downtown Orlando. Congratulations to (front, l. to r.) Payton Griffith, Shay Ryan, Brooke Penkal, Erin and Katie Collier, MacKenzie Loos, Molly Martin, (back, l. to r.) assistant coach Darris Griffith, Abigail Cramer, Ranya Awad, Laura Northington, Kristen Hoover, Gabrielle Heard, Audrey Malcolm, Sarah Martin, Georgia Reiss, assistant coach Berit Reiss and coach Allison Malcolm.


Windermere Elementary School’s Girls on the Run team trained twice a week for three months before participating in the Orlando Utilities Commission 5K in downtown Orlando. GOTR encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.

Bridgewater Middle School student Ryan Martini received the Golden Volleyball Award for his outstanding performance this season. Thanks in part to Martini’s stellar play, BMS went undefeated during the regular season and won the division championship. Martini also showed incredible skill when he served 25 consecutive aces and single-handedly defeated Windy Ridge School.

The Rockets United soccer team wins the 7-under division of the 2008 Kick It 3v3 World Soccer Championship, held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex.


Congratulations to the Rockets United soccer team for winning the 7-under division of the 2008 Kick It 3v3 World Soccer Championship, held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex. Team members included Giovanni Guazzaroni of Palm Cove Estates and Roberto Ydrach of Kensignton Park. RU also placed first at the 2008 3v3 Challenge National Championship. Since forming in December 2007, the team has won 17 championships, 15 of which have been consecutive.

The Executive Women’s Golf Association Orlando chapter will hold its Tee Off 2009 event at The Tap Room at Dubsdread on March 12 at 6:30 p.m. The evening is open to any resident who wants to learn more about this premier Central Florida women’s golf organization. The featured speaker will be Emilee Klein, head women’s golf coach for the University of Central Florida and LPGA Tour British Open winner.

Kudos to the Central Florida Futbol Freaks 12-under girls soccer team for placing second at the 2008 Kick It 3v3 World Soccer Championship at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex. The Orlando Area Rowing Society will host more than 1,000 student rowers at its 11th annual Invitational Regatta on March 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Considered one of the most prestigious rowing events in the Southeast, the regatta will be held at Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake. Food and merchandise will be available for purchase. Entry into the park is $4; however, the event is free for the public, and residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
